Although compromise of the respiratory and digestive systems is evident in patients infected with the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), there may also be compromise of other important systems, such as the renal system. In this sense, it is essential that the clinician does not forget that kidney patients often coexist with cardiovascular diseases, since in both pathologies the prognosis of the infectious contagious disease caused by this new coronavirus becomes bleak. There are still no effective and approved drugs to face this virus, but the possible beneficial effect of antimalarials (hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine) is presumed and it is expected that the prognosis and mortality associated with these drugs will improve through the antiviral properties that these drugs exhibit. the illness; In this regard, a considerable number of trials are being conducted that scrutinize and discuss the feasibility of this treatment. This article makes a narrative review of the scientific evidence available until April 15, 2020 in the databases about the use of this group of drugs against COVID-19.
