Abstract

OLIVERA, Margarita  and  VILLANI, Davide. Potenciales impados económicos en Argentina y Brasil del acuerdo de libre comercio entre el Mercosur y la Unión Europea. Ens. Econ. [online]. 2017, vol.27, n.50, pp.103-126. ISSN 0121-117X.

In the last years, the discussion on the costs and benefits that a free agreement between Mercosur and the European Union would cause have been intensifying. While defenders of the agreement use a static comparative advantage framework to justify its virtues, other scholars maintain that productive regional integration in Latin America should be prioritised in order to foster economic development. The objective of this work is to study the potential effects that the signature of a free trade agreement could have on the trade specialization pattern of Mercosur, and examine the possible consequences on the productive structures, employment and on external vulnerability of the region. Inter-regional trade will be analysed, as well as the salient characteristics of trade tariffs for each zone, sectoral composition of employment for Argentina and Brazil.
