Germán Espinosa (1938-2007) is one of the most important writers of the Colombian Caribbean, however, his work remains unknown to most readers in Colombia. For this reason, this article offers, in the first instance, a concise profile of the Cartagenian writer, based on some significant experiences that help to understand the different position taking that can be seen in his narrative project. Next, it delves into issues such as the links of memory, Afro-Caribbean history, so often made invisible, the problems of slavery and racism. Finally, the transgressive role of desire and eroticism in some of his stories, as well as in his most famous novel, is analyzed in detail.
