ROJAS-MESA, Julio Ernesto y LEAL-URUENA, Linda Alejandra. Affordance: A Construct for Understanding and Transforming Learning in Intercultural Contexts. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2017, n.42, pp.63-77. ISSN 0121-3814.
This reflection article delimits the concept of affordance in the learning and knowledge production processes, as well as in the exchange of knowledge that favors intercultural scenarios for innovation and knowledge management. The concept of affordance is approached from the relationship between subjects, artifacts and environments, which brings a fresh perspective of analysis of the educational field and makes it possible to move forward in the materialization of the artifact as a product of the learning process, something that had been excessively theoretical in the development of virtual education until now. We propose two lines of discussion: The first one has to do with the production of knowledge in intercultural contexts; and the second one is associated with the learning processes in the digital age. In the development of the discussion, we present the affordances related to the deterritorialization of the teaching-learning process towards its ubiquity, the conceptual displacement of notions such as community, identity, and school, towards notions of network, empathy, and learning environments; and, finally, the affordances associated with the open, mass and online learning scenarios. The versatility of the concept of affordance and the variety of forms it adopts through the analysis of the relationship between cultural systems, education and technology determine the strength of this construct, its social impact and the possibility of transforming educational processes.
