Resumen

ALARCON RODRIGUEZ, Angie Alejandra; CARRENO MORENO, Sonia Patricia  y  ARIAS-ROJAS, Mauricio. Reliability and validity of the instrument Chronic Disease Burden for the Patient GCPC-UN. av.enferm. [online]. 2020, vol.38, n.3, pp.296-306.  Epub 05-Ene-2021. ISSN 0121-4500.  https://doi.org/10.15446/av.enferm.v38n3.84031.

Objective:

To determine the construct validity and internal consistency of the instrument Chronic Disease Burden for the Patient, Chronic Patient Care Group (GCPC-UN).

Materials and methods:

Methodological study with 240 patients diagnosed with chronic disease. For construct validity, exploratory factor analysis of 8 scenarios was implemented under two orthogonal rotation methods (varimax and equamax) and four extraction methods (main components, unweighted least squares, generalized least squares, and alpha Factorization) forced to 3 factors. The internal consistency of the instrument was calculated using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient.

Results:

Two of the three clear factors associated with two dimensions of the instrument were recognized. Ten so-called problematic items were identified and excluded from the analysis, which did not represent greater stability of the results. Cronbach's alpha for the overall final instrument was 0.925.

Conclusions:

The interpretation of the results correlates statistical versus the conceptual findings. The instrument validates the proposed items and dimensions and shows adequate reliability in terms of internal consistency. Further validity tests are necessary in light of the new construct proposed by this study.
