Objectives: to identify risk factors of socio-demographic aspects and food practices associated to the nutritional status. Materials and methods: cross sectional study, with children between 6 and 60 months. Results: prevalence of low weight 9,4%, short stature 5,4%, overweight risk 8,6% and overweight 7,5%. Malnutrition associated independent factors: low educational level of mothers (OR 1,22) and the absence of supplement feeding in a children care house(OR 1,47); for overweight not control growth and development (OR 2,8), considered among the priority tubers food in the first year of life (OR 2.24) and not having received exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusions: we recommend the implementation of the AIEPI community strategy, with emphasis on key practices related to food.
