GIRALDO DIAZ, Reinaldo. LANSCAPE RECONFIGURATION AND AGROECOLOGY IN VALLE DEL CAUCA FROM 1850 TO 2010. Luna Azul [online]. 2014, n.38, pp.252-273. ISSN 1909-2474.
The Concept of landscape is introduced as an analytical general horizon that allows addressing the relationship between man and nature in the geographical Cauca river valley from the perspective of rural development. The objective of this article, derived from research, is to display the exuberant and bountiful landscape configuration in 1850 and the various social processes that begin to turn it into wasteland, due to a new form of appropriation of geographic space based on economic growth and the ideal of progress and development. Methodologically, five periods are suggested as rural development trajectories to point out the landscape transformation processes since 1850. It was found that the progressive degradation of the Valle del Cauca landscape has been promoted by agricultural modernization and the adoption of development models based on economic growth. It is concluded that agro ecology, as a way of life and alternative to the industrial model of food production, allows the exuberant and bountiful reconfiguration of the Valle del Cauca landscape.
