The 1970s and 1980s represented a period of great cultural growth in the city of Cali. The transformations experienced by the city during this time period, along with increasing action by new actors and discourse in the artistic life of the city, led to a number of changes in the local artistic landscape and broadened the audience for ''culture''. Cultural magazines played a vital role in this process, simultaneously serving as forums for new ideas and artistic content and as the medium for the popularizing of these same ideas. This article will examine this dual function with the aim of illustrating the importance of these magazines as modernizing agents of local culture.
