The present article presents, from a comparative standpoint, an overview of the way in which certain thinkers from Río de la Plata and Nueva Granada conceived of and spoke about the mélange of sexes. Based on a corpus of writers from the 'generación del '37' in Río de la Plata and from the 'generación santanderista' in Nueva Granada, the article will explore not only their speech in this regard, but also the context they were part of and the degree to which they were linked to larger concerns about social order and organization.
