Resumen

This paper studies the most significant elements that define the sex industry in Southeast Asia, using the systematic bibliographic revision. These include, first, its complex, organization, sophistication, diversification and structuring; Its relation with the feminization of poverty, migration and ethnic minorities, sex trafficking, and the growing sex tourism. Second, we will talk about its customers, the young demographic structure and the early access to the prostitution market. Then we shall refer to gender inequalities, cultural and religious beliefs, and the collective social imaginary. Next, we will discuss the concept of direct and indirect prostitution, the idea of choice and their limits on the statistics production. Finally we will look for some discussion to address the phenomenon from a human rights perspective.
