This article analyzes several strategic groups in the insurance subsector in Colombia and their endurance. The methodology identifies strategic groups in the Colombian insurance subsector, using financial indicators processed through cluster analysis and the minimum variance method; it determines the stability of such strategic groups through time and establishes a relation between the insurance companies' performance and the strategic groups' stability through time. For the period 2000-2006, the analysis identifies four strategic groups, with a stability of 93%, and the relation between said stability and the financial performance of the firms that comprise each group. The results are important for understanding the sector evolution and for developing short-and long-term plans aimed at improving its competitiveness.
