Resumen

SALINAS LEAL, Héctor Hernando. THE COMMON NAME'S PROBLEM OF MEANING IN JOHN DUNS SCOTUS. Univ. philos. [online]. 2011, vol.28, n.56, pp.201-240. ISSN 0120-5323.

This work sets out to offer a presentation of Scotus' treatment on common name's problem of meaning, included in his two commentaries on Aristotle's De interpretatione. The two classic positions are analyzed in these early commentaries (the name meaning the concept or meaning the thing), keeping in suspense at the same time, a personal position from Scotus. Comparing a passage added later to one of these commentaries with another passage from his Ordinatio, a work of maturity commenting on the book of Sentences, we may claim that Scotus, in spite of the opinion of some historians, held a position on this problem, that we may call innovative and conciliating between the two classic positions.

Palabras clave : meaning; semantics; medieval logic; John Duns Scotus; medieval philosophy.
