This document is result of a documental enquire, that gathers the contributions that Max Weber makes to market and exchange theory in his text General Economic History (1923 and 2001). Other works done by specialists inspired by his text have been also taken into consideration. The acquired working method was based in the elaboration of analytical summaries and in the construction of category matrixes that enabled the systematization of the formulation made by Weber and the rest of the considered authors. The text evidences why Weber is one of the thinkers that best approaches; existent links between economic determinants, sociological relations and historic processes that lead to the development of western civilization as it is known today. This is why Weber is still a thinker which theories are still applicable for socio economic analyses in diverse disciplines.
