FUENTES LOPEZ, Héctor Javier; JIMENEZ REYES, Luis Carlos y PEREZ FORERO, Nicolás Alexander. Industrial Demography in Colombia: Location and Relocation of Manufacturing Activity. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2019, vol.28, n.1, pp.43-65. ISSN 0121-215X. https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v28n1.66823.
The article carries out a spatial analysis of the Colombian industry, describing the historical processes that shaped the main industrial centres in the country. As well as presenting an analysis of industrial location and relocation during the period 2005-2015. The relocated industries are identified from a data set published by the Colombian Superintendence of Corporations, and then, georeferenced and analysed by using a distance matrix. The study concludes, on the one hand, that Colombian industry is mainly domestic, focused on an internal market located in the main population centres of the country, most of them away from the coastal areas. And, on the other hand, that relocation processes take place in zones close to the habitual locations and are generally promoted by institutional restrictions, such as taxes (tax incentives) or environmental regulations.
