MEJIA, Joel Francisco; VEGA MENDEZ, Favian; SEIAD MAN, Eddin Abou Asaad  y  MORA, Elba Marina. Hydrogeography of a Multiple Use River Basin Located in the Coastal Mountain Range, Venezuela. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.1, pp.217-238.  Epub 03-Mar-2021. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v30n1.81737.

The Tirgua river basin located in the Coastal Mountain Range - Venezuela, was analyzed combining both the hydrogeographic and the hydrological landscapes approaches. An automated estimation of geomorphometric parameters related to: form, relief, and drainage for the watersheds was done, being processed using statistical methods to define a spatial differentiation. Precipitation, temperature and evapotranspiration were spatially analyzed using interpolation methods, the streamflow of the watersheds was estimated using an indirect method and the land use typologies were spatially considered towards the hydrological response. The Principal Component Analysis lead to discriminate four groups of watersheds, mainly explained by form and relief signatures. The hydrological response was mostly explained by the location of watersheds inside the river basin, relief and the climate dynamic. The combination of these approaches was useful in studying poorly ungauged basins.

Highlights: research article in which a poorly ungauged multiple use river basin is characterized through a combination of two approaches: hydrogeographic and the hydrological landscapes, using hydroclimatological indirect methods, as well as statistical analysis and spatial processing with Gis.
