GONZALEZ, Cecilia y ROSSI, Máximo. FEMINIZACIÓN Y DIFERENCIAS SALARIALES EN URUGUAY. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2007, vol.26, n.46, pp.74-106. ISSN 0121-4772.
The present work analyses the repercussions of females being incorporated into the Uruguayan labour market from 1986 to 1997 in terms of remuneration as perceived by men and women. Bergmann’s Hypothesis of Concentration (1971 and 1974) is looked at, according to which women being concentrated in just a few occupations (due to discrimination) leads to their wages becoming reduced per se. Wage differences are then broken down using Macpherson and Hirsch’s methodology (1995) to identify the part which is discriminatory and that which is justified.
Palabras clave : occupational segregation; labour market; feminisation; wage differences.
