Resumen

MARIN-POSADA, Sebastián  y  POSADA-ZAPATA, Isabel Cristina. DISDAIN AND RISK IN MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN LIVING WITH HIV IN MEDELLÍN. Hacia promoc. Salud [online]. 2020, vol.25, n.1, pp.13-28. ISSN 0121-7577.  https://doi.org/10.17151/hpsal.2020.25.1.2.

Objective:

to understand the meanings of disdain built by Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) living with HIV and their relationship with risky practices in the metropolitan area of Medellín, 2016.

Methods:

qualitative approach. Eleven interviews were conducted that were coded and analyzed following the method of Founded Theory proposed by Strauss and Corbin. The sampling had two moments: in the first moment an intentional stratified sampling was developed and in the second moment a theoretical sampling was carried out. Eight MSM with HIV over 18 years of age and resident of the metropolitan area of Medellín participated.

Results:

the meanings of disdain derived from experiences of contempt experienced in different scenarios of socialization by MSM with HIV allow understanding risk practices in this population group.

Discussion:

the care and risk practices of MSM with HIV are influenced by a relational context where recognition and contempt interactions take place. In this context, heteronormativity is a central element that crosses the links in private (family, friends, couple) and public (educational institution, health, and other institutions) scenarios so that care-risk practices deserve to be understood in terms of social justice and not only as purely individual skills.

Palabras clave : HIV; homosexuality; social discrimination; risk; sexual health.
