ROMERO JARAMILLO, DOLCEY. Agreements and idealization of Palenque in the province of Cartagena: the case of Totumo (1714-1767). Hist. Caribe [online]. 2020, vol.15, n.37, pp.215-247. Epub 24-Jul-2021. ISSN 0122-8803. https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.37.2020.9.
The use of military force was the most known mechanism in order to try to solve conflicts arising among maroons and the colonial authorities In contrast; this article shows how agreements were relevant and important forms to also solve those conflicts. Likewise it also addresses the analysis of how biased and incomplete perception of Palenque contributed to the idealization of these people. To do this, some important cases of these agreements are presenting and the case of Palenque del Totumo is referenced. This case is considered to be the most recent today and also its study refutes, among others, the hypothesis of Palenque as sites or niches where absolute freedom prevailed.
