GOMEZ-MANTILLA, DELIA YAQUELINE. Interethnic conflicts in the old Jesuit haciendas of the Valle de Cúcuta. The case of the new slaves of Juan Gregorio Almeida (1773 - 1810). Hist. Caribe [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.40, pp.75-98. Epub 25-Oct-2022. ISSN 0122-8803. https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.40.2022.3202.
In 1767, Jesuits were expelled from the Spanish colonies in America; their proprieties (farms and slaves) were sold to particular people through an auction process in 1773. That was the origin of a series of interethnic conflicts in the Cucuta Valley between the new owners and their slaves. A conflicts' examination revealed the real important interests to the owner's decisions regarding the acquired slave labor force and the changes that occurred in daily life. This study was based on documentation from the General Archive of the Nation, and the Historical and Archdiocesan archives from Pamplona.
