RAMIREZ CHICHARRO, Manuel. From participation to political action. The political parties' women sections in Cuba, 1925-1959. Hist. Caribe [online]. 2023, vol.18, n.43, pp.99-132. Epub 30-Dic-2023. ISSN 0122-8803. https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.43.2023.3720.
During the Republic, Cuban political parties created sections within their structures, such as the labor and the student ones. This article examines how females' sections, created in the context of suffrage struggles, were used by political parties to spread their doctrine among potential voters. However, soon after, these same sections assumed powers beyond propaganda support, developing educational campaigns or becoming part of the civil defense of Cuba during World War II. Later, in the 1950s, some of them became important ways of inserting women in the insurrection against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.
