BOLIVAR CHAVEZ, Pedro Alberto; MORA CASTILLO, Alejandro; FLOREZ RONCANCIO, Víctor Julio y FISCHER, Gerhard. a-NAPHTALEN ACETIC ACID PROLONGS VASE LIFE OF CUT ROSES. Rev. Fac. Nac. Agron. Medellín [online]. 2005, vol.58, n.2, pp.2883-2892. ISSN 0304-2847.
In Colombia , there are approximately 2500 ha grown in roses for the purpose of exportation. In order to improve the postharvest behavior of cut roses grown under greenhouse conditions, a study was conducted with the 'Madame Delbard' rose variety, combining pre and postharvest treatments. At preharvest: (1) Foliar sprays of Hormonagro ANAâ, and (2) Control. At postharvest: (1) Floríssima 825â; (2) Inmersion of the stems in a solution of 0,2 % Klip Calcioâ 8.4 % (CaO) during 15 s and Floríssima 825â 1 %; (3) 1-Methylcyclepropene (1-MCP) 0,5 gm-3 plus Florissima 825â 1 %; (4) 200 mgL-1 of 8-hydroxyquinoline citrate (8-HQC) solution plus 800 mgL-1 of aluminium sulphate (Al2(SO4)3) plus 2% sucrose (C12H22O11) and (5) calcium hypoclorite (Ca(ClO)2) 2 %. The post-harvest handling consisted of hydration, pulsing, storing and transport simulation. The longest vase life was obtained with ANA treatments (ANA plus Florissima, 10,3 days; ANA plus Florissima plus calcium, 9,3 days; and ANA plus Florissima plus 1-MCP, 8.3 days); and the shortest vase life was obtained with the 8-HQC plus Al2(SO4)3 plus sucrose treatment. The interaction of ANA plus Florissima reduced bent-neck significantly and increased water consumption as compared to the other treatments. There was a synergestic effect between ANA and CaO, which decreased the senescent process.
