Resumen

MURCIA, Napoleón  y  MELO, Luis Gerardo. Meanings of losing and winning: Selection and discrimination of inter-school games. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2011, vol.9, n.2, pp.669-682. ISSN 1692-715X.

We submit the results of two central categories of the "pedagogical accompaniment to Armenia 2008 inter-school games" research process, taking the imaginaries of the participating community as the analysis unit. The approximate tally was 3,800 people. The design was structured on the basis of the ethnographic complementarity approach (Murcia & Jaramillo, 2009). An emerging approach to look for the comprehension of this reality from the development of qualitative and quantitative information gathering methods was implemented. Losing and winning arise as inductive emergencies from a very first moment with both male and female trainers, sportspeople and leaders in their respective fields. From the mobility of their imaginaries, it is found that the community dominant logic or central imaginary is that the games become a selective competition scenario.

Palabras clave : Meanings of losing and winning; inter-school games; complementarity approach.
