This article reports the results of a doctoral thesis, related to the construction of the concept of time by children from 1st to 6th grade of primary school, in the context of the social studies educational program applied in Costa Rica. The study was conducted using a mixed method research design, and in this case, it presents only the results of the quantitative component based on the application of a questionnaire to 148 children. Results included an increasing comprehension of the different aspects of the concept of time as children advance in the educational system, nonetheless, the learning depends more on the personal experiences than on formal instruction, and, even at the 6th grade level, many children still have not acquired the basic notions of the concept.
