Resumen

FLORES, Paula  y  BROWNE, Rodrigo. Young people and patriarchy in the ICT society: A reflection from the symbolic gender violence of social networks. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.1, pp.147-160. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.1510804082016.

This paper analyses how representations of gender violence are either perpetrated or transformed in our society. A society permeated by information and communication technologies where young people are the main protagonists. Specifically, this paper focuses on social networks. These platforms have reached such a significance in their level of use among new generations that they have reconfigured identity processes and relational paradigms. As a result, spaces are provided for the magnification or annulation of a myriad of expressions of gender violence expressions that are both explicit and symbolic. Based on this conceptualization, a theoretical analytical reflection was conducted by the authors using the methodology of literature review. This evidenced the need to question how the internet impacts on the way in which young people build their gender identities and social relationships as social actors in a paternal culture.

Palabras clave : Patriarchy; gender violence; young people; communication technologies; social networks.
