ROJAS-ROJAS, Fabio Noriel y ARDILA-MONTEALEGRE, Javier. Dissemination of Phyllodes Tumor in a 19-Year-Old Pregnant woman. Rev. Cienc. Salud [online]. 2020, vol.18, n.3, pp.198-206. Epub 16-Ago-2021. ISSN 1692-7273. https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/revsalud/a.9801.
Introduction:
Phyllodes tumor is a rare fibroepithelial stromal tumor of the breast, accounting for <1% of all primary breast tumors. Malignant presentations of this neoplasm are characterized by metastases in up to 10% of all cases.
Case presentation:
The case reported is of a 19-year-old female patient who was 11 weeks pregnant and presented with jaundice at the skin and scleral levels, abdominal pain, and hepatomegaly, as determined on physical examination. The patient required left mastectomy for a phyllodes tumor that was histologically characterized 16 months ago at another medical institution. The outcome was fatal despite medical efforts before and during pregnancy.
Conclusion:
The fundamental pillar of the treatment of phyllodes tumor remains to be surgical resection. While age can act as a prognostic predictor, the follow-up of possible recurrences is part of the management process.
