A technical and economic design of a solar photo voltaic test bench for off grid electricity generation is presented in this paper. This work us based on the relevance of solar energy in the development of renewable energies technologies in Colombian Caribbean region, and the necessity to conduct and implement an overall program for evaluation and development of renewable resources leaded by Universidad del Atlántico. The project starts with a detailed analysis of available information from different data bases about similar researches, consequently, solar radiation data from the sample zone were used to apply a dimensioning method for an off grid solar photo voltaic system, allowing to conduct an economic analysis of the system. Results show that a solar energy availability analysis is primary and essential for a design of solar photo voltaic system in the assembly places in order to properly determine the physical dimensions of the devices, components, and structure so that the equipment can be considered acceptable to efficiently work in the determined place, satisfactorily supplying the necessary power with respect to the electrical energy demand calculate in the zone. the economic analysis points out that fiscal incentives have to be taken in consideration so that this type of projects might be profitable with a proper payback period.
