OLAYA, Javier et al. ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN FAMILIAL SOCIOECONOMIC COMPOSITION AND URBAN RESIDENTIAL SOLID WASTE GENERATION. Rev.EIA.Esc.Ing.Antioq [online]. 2013, n.20, pp.127-137. ISSN 1794-1237.
This study aims to analyze the behavior of solid waste generation by block sides and communes, using as an illustration data coming from the city of Cali, Colombia. Block sides and communes are characterized based on socioeconomic measurements collected from a set of randomly sampled families, which helped us to build up the profiles of solid waste generators. We use Principal Component Analysis as a statistical multivariate tool to study possible associations between the socioeconomic composition of families and solid waste generation. Results show high levels of association among educational levels and age, and also that solid waste generation and composition vary from one economic stratum to another.
