Resumen

PINHEIRO MOTA, Catarina; DIAS, Denise  y  ROCHA, Magda. Peer Attachment and Bullying Behavior during Adolescence: The mediational Effect of Self-Esteem. Av. Psicol. Latinoam. [online]. 2020, vol.38, n.1, pp.48-65.  Epub 02-Feb-2021. ISSN 1794-4724.  https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/apl/a.5898.

The quality of the peer attachment established during adolescence has been discussed as a protecting factor towards the involvement in school violence. The presence of an association between peer attachment and the development of self-esteem could have a significant effect as a protecting factor against bullying during adolescence. The present study tested the predictor effect of peer attachment on different bullying conduct, as well the mediational role of self-esteem on the same association. The sample consisted of 351 individuals of both genders, with ages between 12 and 17 years old. The use of a model structural equation allowed obtaining results that point to the existence of a peer attachment predictive effect on victimization and aggressive behavior. Results also showed a total negative mediational effect of self-esteem on the association between peer attachment and victimization, namely the physical aggression. There is also a partial negative mediational effect on the association between peer attachment and victimization behavior towards social exclusion and verbal aggression.

Palabras clave : Peer attachment; self-esteem; bullying; adolescence.
