LOPES DA CUNHA, Guilherme  y  NASSER APPEL, Tiago. Geopolitics and development in compared trajectories: South America and East Asia. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.13, pp.89-105. ISSN 1900-6586.

The political and economic landscape of East Asia and South America is marked by differences and similarities. In this context, it is useful to compare the economic development strategies along with the geopolitical aspects of these regions. As a hypothesis, it is considered that the concept of development may be related to a geopolitical axis for comparing strategies of State policies. The trajectories of these regions are compared through theoretical sources that analyze the socio-economic and political progress, especially in the post-1945 period. An atmosphere of competition and expansion of power occurs worldwide, but different regions take precedence. In this context, when the political projects of the countries of South America and East Asia are compared, the question is: How can countries took their chances and went their separate ways? Based on qualitative sources, one of the objectives of this proposal is to investigate the development strategies of China, South Korea and Japan, and compared with the evolution of the development of the countries of South America, considered collectively. Accurate analysis of some authors demonstrated that the political direction of East Asia said conditions allowing it to be inserted in the international system, which was not reproduced in the region of South America. On the basis of these investigations, there are experiences in Asian countries that contribute to a reassessment of the importance of the geopolitical strategies of South America.
