Resumen

GARCIA PARRA, Pío Quinto. Towards a Confucian Global Governance. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.18, pp.247-267. ISSN 1900-6586.

How to deal with global problems has become a controversial issue. Since 1995, when Our Global Neighborhood, the report endorsed by the United Nations was released, different points of view about the nature of global governance have been raised. These points of view can be summarised in the following four statements: global governance does not and should not exist; it does not but should exist; it exists but should not; it exists and should exist. It is argued here that from the perspective of Confucian philosophy, the latter is true, based on an acceptance of the diagnosis of world domination by economic rationality. Facing this challenge, the Confucian alternative governance idealizes the voluntarism of virtuous leaders - a solution rendered unfeasible by the importance of institutions. Nonetheless, based on revised Confucian philosophy, this article argues that global stability is related to the conscious arrangement of the triadic social complex of cognitive, transformative and ludic cultures. For this purpose, the best outcome requires the strengthening of regional and multilateral institutions acting as mediators in the struggle for world power.

Palabras clave : Confucius; Confucianism; Globalization; Governance; Multilateralism.
