Resumen

DEL MOLINO-GARCIA, Ricardo. Gods of war and Greco-Roman heroes in the first Neogranadine republican military thinking (1810-1816). Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.27, pp.580-602. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.480.

Despite having been overlooked as an object of study in research on the shift of the processes from the old regime to modernity, as well as in the classical tradition and historiographic sensitivity of the political use of history, Hellenic and Latin antiquity was present in the military thought of the First Colombian Republic (1810-1819). Here, the sources that testify to their presence will be shown, emphasizing the gods of war and Greco-Roman military heroes. The main objective of this analysis is not only to highlight the reception and appropriation of the classical legacy in the New Granada but also the intellectual height of the first Neogranadine military thinking.

Palabras clave : Army; classical tradition; Colombia; gods; heroes; independence.
