Resumen

ALVARADO, Helver Martín. The apocryphal letters of Sallust and the classical republican tradition. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.27, pp.662-681. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.503.

The general approaches of the classical republican tradition and the historical causes of the social and political crisis that originated deliberations on the constitution are reconstructed. Then, their influence is examined following the thread of the facts described by two apocryphal letters of Sallust to Caesar, before and after he was militarily established as a dictator in Rome. The objective was to review the ideological construction of the civil concord for the res publica. Through this contextual analysis and its theoretical background, a new light is cast on how the letters not only shape to treaties on the art of governing but also conceive the constitutional possibility of a "republican monarchy" to benefit the common good in the face of the dangers of civil war.

Palabras clave : civil war; common good; constitution; freedom; politeia; republican monarchy; res publica.
