This article contributes to the study of the use of virtual reality as a teaching and learning tool, especially in basic and professional education. It scrutinizes virtual reality as an alternative to ensuring educational process's quality, especially urgent given the current physical distancing situation due to the pandemic. This research examines previously published works whose contributions can be considered adaptive, developed, and applied in basic and professional education environments and have demonstrated effective educational process results. In conclusion, the potential of virtual reality as an educational tool is evident. However, it is not always the most appropriate; therefore, its use must be carefully evaluated and defined.
