Historelo.rev.hist.reg.local [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.33, pp.80-111.  Epub 01-Mayo-2023. ISSN 2145-132X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/historelo.v15n33.102421.

Popular Cultural Action was a catholic institution of a long range that offered education to rural communities and that intended to bring about better life conditions in a turmoil of violence, massive rural-urban migrations, and growing rates of poverty and urbanization. In the last few years, there is a growing research trend on this topic, and it is relevant to put forward a historiographical assessment that can identify and analyze the main contributions, conclusions, limitations, needs and trends of the inquiry. This paper scrutinizes scientific production on Popular Cultural Action occurred between 1975 and 2021, so as to bring about new studies that may contribute to the understanding of this catholic mission. A bibliographic corpus was assembled from university repositories, as well as scientific data bases and journals. All disciplines from the Humanities and the Social Sciences were included in the account. The corpus documents were systematized and analyzed drawing on the research topic and the ongoing academic discussion. The analysis allowed us to identify that the conversation values the contribution made by the catholic institution to rural communities in terms of social impact and the educational system. In contrast, the conversation fails to appreciate development narratives and the influence of the Catholic Church.
