Despite the preponderance of exports as a way of internationalization of Colombian companies, recent increases in investment leaving the country reveal a growing tendency to use other modes of entry, whose complexity poses significant challenges to organizations. Objective: to find the correspondences between the conceptual framework of international competitiveness at the enterprise level developed by Depperu Cerrato (2011) and the literature on multilatins and translatins. Methodology: Through a review of the academic literature on this type of business and its relationship with conceptual efforts to establish methods for assessing the international competitiveness of firms the state of art of foreign direct investment as a way of internationalization of companies from Latin America is obtained . The result shows weakness in the concept of multilatins and translatins and suggests ways to assess the international competitiveness of firms that internationalize from Latin America including elements of social responsibility and local development.
