Resumen
OCHOA LARA, Ismael Orlando et al. Evaluation of a chemical treatment to control paraffin in oil at Colorado field. Rev. ion [online]. 2011, vol.24, n.2, pp.51-56. ISSN 0120-100X.
Paraffin in oil production has several problems like restricting the oil flow in the pipeline due to the reduction in the pipeline diameter because of the accumulation of this in the intern wall. Also, this product can change the oil viscosity behavior because of the same phenomenon. The use of chemicals has been effective in solving the problems of paraffin deposition. This paper shows the evaluation of a chemical treatment at laboratory scale, which consists of a dispersant that prevents the crystals growth; a surfactant that helps to wet the paraffinic particles; a solvent which gives back the capacity to dissolve the paraffinic wax crystals due to the precipitation because of gases lost or reduction of the temperature and a mutual solvent whose function is to improve the solubility properties between the additives. Properties were assessed such as cloud point, pour point and rheological behavior, to determinate the effectiveness and selecting the best combination of chemical treatment. The chemical treatment tested is compatible with the fluids and the rock of the producing formation, showing the formulation 12 (in a ratio v/v of 10 parts oil to 1 part formulation) a decrease in cloud point of 62.12 % and a similar rheological behaviour without paraffin oil.
