Resumen

DA SILVA, Patrícia Marília Félix. Between streets and works: work of homeless people in Recife-Brazil. Rev. colomb. soc. [online]. 2020, vol.43, n.2, pp.67-89.  Epub 08-Mayo-2021. ISSN 0120-159X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcs.v43n2.82904.

The situation of poverty, including extreme poverty, relates directly to labor dynamics aggravated by the context of many social inequalities. This is the situation in Brazil, a country where despite having a high Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the majority of the population does not have access to this wealth, making this country one of the most unequal in the world. Homeless people, in this context, have diverse motives for living this way and face different life-changing difficulties. This population has extreme poverty in common, in a context where public policies are ineffective to cover their needs, change this reality and promote people's participation as political agents. Most of the homeless people are hard workers, whose work is the focus of this article, specifically those developed on the beach Boa Viagem in Recife-Brazil. One of the most notable works on this beach is the commercialization of drinks and food for people who visit this place to have leisure and tranquility experiences. Around this economic activity are the homeless people who work on transporting goods to the beach and serving customers. In this sense, the objective of this article is to analyze the work process of these people. Through observations, interviews, focus groups, and photographs, based on the concept non-classic work, was found that these works have their own control processes, as these are performed on the streets. Moreover, the articulation between this conceptual perspective and the configurationist methodology allowed us to analyze the broad notion of subjectivity in these works. The results presented in this article, derived from the research developed in the doctorate, point out that these precarious and non-classic works contribute to the accumulation of capital.

Descriptors: homeless, poverty, social inequality, working conditions.

Palabras clave : configuration; homeless people; informality; non-classic work; poverty; social inequality.
