Immersed in the confluence of processes that build the city, the public space is understood as a condition acquired in the constant transformation of urban spaces. The factors and meanings of interest, access and belonging that comprise the public space indicate their ability to aspire the establishment of integration and social strengthening scenarios in our cities.
In San Luis Potosí, a city located in the north-central region of Mexico, the Calzada de Guadalupe offers a public space where the Potosí society is heterogeneous. Its urban-architectural composition consolidated since the nineteenth century has been a meeting point for diverse actors, as well as an identity reference for the local population that nowadays defends its preservation and its democratic transformation.
Today, before the revaluation of the architectural work in the decision making with respect to the public space in our cities, the present exercise is carried out to contribute to the discussion on the socio-spatial relationship in public spaces and the reading of coherent needs as a raw material for architectural work.
