Resumen

CAVIEDES, MAURICIO. APOCRYPHAL ANTHROPOLOGY AND INDIGENOUS MOVEMENT: SOME DOUBTS ABOUT THE "TASTE" OF ANTHROPOLOGY MADE IN COLOMBIA. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2007, vol.43, pp.35-59. ISSN 0486-6525.

THIS ESSAY ARGUES THAT ANTHROPOLOGY MADE IN COLOMBIA OSCILLATES BETWEEN THE ACCEPTANCE OF European or North American academic traditions and the vindication of political activism in favor of ethnic groups. The essay holds that anthropology made in Colombia cannot build a tradition of its own, unless anthropologists accept the methodological and conceptual proposals made by those colleagues who have transformed the discipline by practicing anthropology in support of political indigenous organizations. These anthropologists and their proposals, although often excluded from academic recognition, have oriented their practice to the construction of a different society, respectful of indigenous peoples´ rights. This social transformation is both a challenge to and an achievement of anthropology made in Colombia.

Palabras clave : Latin American anthropology; indigenous movement; indigenous peoples; history of anthropology.
