THIS PAPER ANALYZES THE SITUATION OF CONTEMPORARY COLOMBIAN ANTHROPOLOGY, IN COMPARISON with the recent trajectories of Brazil and Mexico. All three are part of what has been called Southern Anthropologies but have developed different styles according to their insertion into and articulation with different national projects. As scientific practice they are part of specific academic processes and scientific developments in each country. While Brazilian anthropology has expanded at the graduate level, its applied developments are a rather recent phenomenon. Mexican anthropology, on the contrary, has a long trajectory of applied work as well as in the academic ambit. Colombian anthropology developed primarily at the undergraduate level (graduate studies are relatively recent) and is divided into academic and applied endeavors.
