RODRIGUEZ CUENCA, José Vicente. Dark Soils in the Mythology and Archaeology of the Southeast of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, La Guajira. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2018, vol.54, n.1, pp.253-275. ISSN 0486-6525. https://doi.org/10.22380/2539472x.390.
The land currently occupied by the Indians of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is part of their mythological origins and cultural traditions, since it was occupied for millennia by their ancestors, to whom it provided a vital medium for biological and social reproduction. It's age can only be determined by systematic archaeological studies and physical-chemical soil analysis. The report of an Archaeological Black Earth (ABE) on the banks of the Ranchería River on the St. Helena site in La Guajira, excavated during a preventive archeological study under the hydroelectric project El Cercado (2008-2009) with two radiocarbon dates, can bring new evidence to this discussion.
