Resumen

CORTES FERNANDEZ, Santiago; CAMARGO, Iván Yesid  y  BOTERO ROSAS, Daniel. Changes in body mass index and composition in active personnel in the Colombian Army: a case study. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.22, pp.93-106. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.297.

Military training in the National Army, programmed by the Office of Instruction and delivered throughout the military career, submits the combatant to a variety of conditions, which simulate the activities carried out in the professional practice. Currently, there is no specialized literature on the changes in the body composition of those participating in these military training activities and, consequently, no clarity concerning the possible prevalence of health effects resulting from this physical training. The objective of this document is to characterize these changes in military personnel participating in the National Army’s Advanced Combat Course by using the electrical bioimpedance technique to establish a baseline on which to develop other training courses in the Colombian Military Forces.

Palabras clave : body composition; body mass index; electric bioimpedance; military training; size; skin folds; weight.
