Resumen

ARIZA-QUIROGA, Caterine et al. Potential impacts by residual HPAM from a polymer injection process on the behavior of production fluids. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2022, vol.89, n.220, pp.203-209.  Epub 16-Sep-2022. ISSN 0012-7353.  https://doi.org/10.15446/dyna.v89n220.94024.

The physicochemical characteristics of production fluids derived from chemical recovery processes (crude-water emulsions) can be altered due to the presence of residual polymer, which can generate operational problems in lifting systems or surface facilities. In this research, the potential effects of residual HPAM on the production fluids were analyzed, making sensitivity in variables such as the residual polymer concentration, the water cut and, the amount of total dissolved solids (TDS) in the production water. It was observed that in the presence of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) the separation speed of the production fluids is improved, but the quality of the separated water decreases as the content of dispersed crude increases and the formation of more stable multiple emulsions promoted by the remnant of polymer in the aqueous phase.

Palabras clave : Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide-HPAM; oil-in-water O/W and water-in-oil W/O emulsions; morphology of scattered droplets; scattered droplet size distribution guidelines; Separation water quality.
