Resumen

OLARTE-ECHEVERRI, Germán et al. Early detection of cervical intraepithelial lesions in women from Caldas, Colombia, by electrical impedance spectroscopy. Rev Colomb Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2007, vol.58, n.1, pp.13-20. ISSN 0034-7434.

Objective: testing electrical impedance spectroscopy’s diagnostic precision in detecting cervical intraepithelial lesions. Methodology: this was a diagnostic validity test using a cross-sectional study. 285 patients were evaluated; 118 from this group were selected who were non-menopausic and had abnormal cytology, without biopsies or previous treatment of the cervix. Curves were obtained of resistance magnitude (Ω -m) cf frequency (kHz). This led to differentiating tissue types and the degrees of lesion. Results: it was found from the so obtained parameters that extracellular liquid R resistance was the best discriminator of healthy squamous epithelium and tissue affected by CIN-1 and CIN-2/3 type lesions. Average R value for healthy squamous tissue was 24.31 Ω-m (11.26 standard deviation, 46.3%variation coefficient), 9.76 Ω-m average value for tissue having CIN-1 lesions (6.52 standard deviation, 66.8% variation coefficient) and 6.12 Ω-m average value for tissues having CIN-2/3 lesions (4.32 standard deviation, 70.6% variation coefficient). This diagnostic technique’s precision was measured by receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves, differentiating normal squamous tissues from CIN-1 (79.3% sensitivity and 79.1% specificity). Sensitivity was 88.4% and specificity 87.1% between normal squamous tissues and CIN-2/3 and 63.8% sensitivity and 63.6% specificity between CIN-I and CIN-2 and -3.

Palabras clave : impedance spectroscopy; cervical intraepithelial lesion.
