Medical sciences adopted evidence to support the theories that deal with health and illness, and similarly, other disciplines, such as pedagogy, have adopted this approach to address their problems of interest. The present article discusses the importance of evidence as an indispensable source for the construction of knowledge in pedagogy and educational action from the construction of theories and the design of public policies to pedagogical action in the classroom. Emphasis on scientific research is made to test or give rise to pedagogical theories and to define of indicators that allow evaluating education policies.
