Insufficient information on the characterization of the professional and occupational profile of the Zootechnician that accompanies the curricular restructuring process within the Universidad de Antioquia led to the field investigation carried out through direct person to person surveys in institutions where academic activities, fairs and agricultural contests took place in the Metropolitan Area of Medellín, Antioquia. The questionnaire consisted of 29 groups of questions distributed within the thematics of: personal information, employment information, undergraduate curricular plan, complementary studies to the Animal science, professional remuneration and the relationship between the graduates and the university. The sample size consisted of 93 graduates with a maximum relative error allowed of 10% and a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the respondents average at 34 years of age, where 89.1% of them are located in the metropolitan area and most of the employment opportunities were found in private companies managing the agricultural sector. The most frequent positions were: administration, technical assistance and university teaching, which are oriented towards the areas of production and adminstrativeeconomics with two or three Animal science activities per position. A high degree of satisfaction was found within the professional practice in regards to the level of knwoledge acquired in the undergraduate studies. 80.23% of the samples agree with the economical acknowledgement where 59.30% of the respondents presented an income level of 2 to 6 current minimum legal wage and their remuneration was associated to the position at hand, the experience and seniority. Furthermore, 15 of the 93 respondents manifested having worked in 21 activities that differ from the professional practice.
