MENESES TELLO, Felipe. BIBLIOTECAS Y SOCIEDAD: REFLEXIONES DESDE UNA PERSPECTIVA SOCIOLÓGICA. Rev. Interam. Bibliot [online]. 2005, vol.28, n.2, pp.117-133. ISSN 0120-0976.
This study consists of a sociological approach to the theoretical connection between libraries and society. Its objective is to try to determine new lines of study and analysis within the framework of social library science. In this way, this study provides an overview that can open up a current debate on some of the fundamental concepts surrounding the development of libraries in a social context. Our sociological reflections are as follows: (1) The connection between libraries and society, (2) Society without libraries compared to societies with libraries, (3) Libraries as organic social brains of civilized culture, and (4) Libraries as a reflection of social relations based on class.
