Resumen
FELACIO JIMENEZ, LAURA CRISTINA. The Bogotá Municipal Water Supply Company: Creation, Achievements, and Limitations, 1911-1924. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2011, vol.38, n.1, pp.109-140. ISSN 0120-2456.
Within the framework of urban history and on the basis of a contrasting review of primary and secondary sources, the article describes the creation of the Bogotá Municipal Water Supply Company as a result of the controversial process of municipalization that played a determining role in the incipient modernization of the city, but whose actual scope can be debated. In order to analyze the scope of this municipalization process, the article presents the Company's progress regarding the available potable water supply, water collection and water distribution, while pointing out some of its shortcomings that limited the expansion of residential service and contributed to exacerbating social differences in the city as a result of the unequal assimilation of hygiene practices.
