FORERO HIDALGO, JYMY ALEXANDER. The Evolution of "Uribism" in Ciudad Bolívar: A Historical Analysis, 2002-2007. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2012, vol.39, n.1, pp.145-180. ISSN 0120-2456.
Historiography has documented that authoritarian governments have relied on the support of masses using different strategies of domination depending on the type of regime and the historical moment. On this basis, the objective of this study was to analyze the historical conditions that explain the emergence and evolution of "Uribism" as a political, economic, and social national project with broad levels of popular support and acceptance, particularly in the Ciudad Bolivar neighborhood in the south of Bogotá. The study reveals that it is partial and insufficient to conclude that said support and popular acceptance were due to a single factor. "Uribism" appears as a unique political phenomenon that cannot be explained through theories according to which domination and imposition of a project are achieved exclusively through political terror. The implementation of Uribe's authoritarian project was accomplished through a combination of persuasive and coercive methods that established consensus in the population. This explanation implies an interrelation of both structural and situational historical factors.
