Resumen

SUAREZ PINZON, IVONNE. Sabotaged Interdisciplinarity: Observations to the Law Regulating the Professional Practice of Archivistics. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2012, vol.39, n.1, pp.263-288. ISSN 0120-2456.

This article reflects on the interdisciplinary relationship that exists between archivistics and other disciplines, especially history, and describes the process of discussion and approval of Law 1409 of 2010, whose object is to regulate the professional practice of the discipline and define who can be employed as an archivist in Colombia. The way in which the legal text addresses the interdisciplinary nature of the relation between archival duties and the construction of historical reflections seeks to deny the right to professional exercise to those who, having been formed in other disciplines, have nevertheless performed archival duties, and reserves this exercise to those who obtain a university degree as archivists. When its interdisciplinary nature fails to be acknowledged, archivistics tends to be seen as a mechanical task. Thus, historians see their field of action reduced with respect to the appraisal and protection of cultural patrimony and the advancement of basic historical studies grounded in documentation. The predictable results are the distancing of the disciplines; the lack of awareness of the professional other; the stagnation of institutional history, which is essential for the organization, appraisal, and conservation of documentary heritage, and the reduction of possibilities for the construction of social memory, defense of citizen's rights, and understanding of the past necessary to plan for the future.
